Keeping things clean

Anti Slip Mats

As your cat starts to move slower and their joints become sensitive, they will find it difficult to walk on harder floors. These pads can help reduce the impact when transitioning from carpet to tiles or even having a wander outside in their garden.

We recommend placing these under and around their eating/drinking stations and litter trays if they are located on harder floors. The mats can be easily moved and cleaned when needed. These are not a necessity, just something we recommend if you elderly cat is struggling in different environments. You can find these at DIY companies such as B&Q and Screwfix.

Carpet Cleaner

Sometimes you will find your cat may go to the toilet somewhere other than their litter tray. This can be from having a dirty litter tray to not being able to make it in time. Dr. Beckmann Carpet Cleaner is highly recommended as it helps clean new and old stains from couches and carpets. My partner will also recommend it for removing wine stains! You can purchase this online or find it in your local super markets.

Liners

These can be great if your cat has diarrhea from a sickness or a side affect from taking medication. You line their tray with a liner and fill it with litter. Once ready to clean you pull the draw string and dispose like a standard rubbish bag. These can also be useful when away from home and you have someone looking after your cat who is not used to cleaning a litter tray.

Litter Trays

As your cat gets older they can struggle to lift their back legs as easy as their front ones. You can find trays of all size and depths depending on the size of your cat. Over time try reducing the depth of the tray to stop your cat catching and hitting their back legs. Stainless steel trays are also recommended as they are easy to keep clean.

We are aware that there are many self cleaning litter trays on the market. We feel that these are not suitable for senior cats mainly as they will struggle to get in and out. We are keeping an eye out in case one looks suitable.

Training Pads

As your cat gets older you will notice they do not always put their whole body in the litter tray. These are great around their tray as they are easy to pick up and throw away when they miss. If your cat starts become incontinent while sleeping, these are great for placing on their bed or on top of towel if they have a favorite place to sleep like on your bed or couch. You may find you end up buying more mats that litter.
