Catnip can be used to help your cat relax and reduce anxiety.
We recommend using it as a way to spend quality time with your senior cat by spraying their toys and
having a play. There are healthier catnip treats out there but always be aware the amount you give them.
Not all cats find catnip interesting but you can get variations that can be added to their food. Please
consult your vet on dosage as you can overdose your cat.
Pets Purist
There are supplements that offer a range of benefits for teeth, coat, gut, joints and mood. This is a
topic which we are still learning and trying out products.
We decided to try Pets Purist Prebiotic and Probiotic powder as it helps with constipation.
Unfortunately we could not give this product a fair trial as Colin ended up on a concoction
of medication and had to remove it from the mix as you can only put so much in their food.
Our vet did approve of this beforehand. If you have tried or recommend any other supplements please let
us
know.

Renal
Renal food has reduced proteins, sodium, phosphorus, and increases intake of omega fatty acids and
antioxidants to improve blood flow. There is a variety of wet and dry food available which makes it
easier
to help your cat make the switch. If your cat is in or showing early signs of chronic renal
insufficiency
there are also early renal foods available. For more information on Kidney disease check out our article in the
ailments section.
This is a product we wish we had found sooner. This is a daily supplement that supports your cat with a
range of benefits from health joints to a healthy heart.
We tried this product as it aids with constipation and wanted to reduce or try to remove the need for
prescribed medication.
If your cat suffers from incontinence or a medical condition where you need to clean or bath them,
this helps keep a shiny and a healthy coat. We definitely saw a difference.
Treats
As your cats get older treats can be given too often and lead to them being overweight. Try to find
treats that help reduce plaque, bad breath or assist in organ function.
Try limiting the number of treats given to your cat by giving them in sets of two, three to five times a
day depending on their weight and how active they are.
If your cat is on renal food due to kidney deterioration, a treat can also be a special meal once a week
or when they come back from the vets.
This could be high quality cat fish pouch or tuna in spring water but make sure its in small amounts and
only occasionally. Tuna in oil or brine can cause health issues. This depends on your cats situation so
please consult your vet.
